RESUMO: Nilio Latreille (Tenebrionidae: Nilioninae) previously comprised 42 species distributed across three subgenera: N. (Nilio) Latreille (with 34 species), N. (Micronilio) Pic and N. (Linio) Bouchard & Bousquet (each containing four species). Based on examination of type material of 30 Nilio (Nilio) species and other 462 specimens from national and international collections, this study describes five new species: N. (N.) domingosi Macari & Almeida sp. nov., N. (N.) monnei Macari & Almeida sp. nov., N. (N.) mukambu Macari & Almeida sp. nov., N. (N.) pachamama Macari & Almeida sp. nov. and N. (N.) panicaseus Macari & Almeida sp. nov. This study brings the total number of Nilio extant species to 47, with 39 now assigned to N. (Nilio).
