RESUMO: The Lower Cretaceous limestones of the Crato Formation in Northeastern Brazil comprise a remarkable Konservat- and Konzentrat-Lagerstätte. The deposit has yielded a limited diversity of beetles, which have been placed in the suborders Adephaga and Polyphaga. Three fossils of the deposit are described herein, representing the first formally described for the relict beetle suborder Archostemata. The specimens are embedded in sediment, with only the dorsal side exposed and visible. Using micro-computed tomography, the fossils were reconstructed 3-dimensionally, allowing for the visualization of details previously obscured by the sediment matrix. Detailed descriptions of the dorsal and ventral portions of the fossils are provided, including phylogenetically relevant features. Phylogenetic analyses were carried out based on either parsimony or Bayesian inference, including morphological clock estimates of divergence ages. The results support the placement of two of the fossils in Ommatidae and †Notocupes, respectively, as well as the erection of a new extinct family, †Cratocupedidae fam. nov. These represent unprecedented records for Archostemata in the western portion of Gondwana, adding to the rich pool of lineages of the suborder in the Mesozoic.
